- Just to follow up to my own article and help ease ATI's FUD problems:
-
- Let me say that I've gotten my the problem solved. It seems I
- overlooked one small detail in installing the drivers: power-cycling
- the machine. it seems that enabling the aperture and saving that state
- to the EEPROM requires a power cycle for the card to re-read the
- settings....
-
- I wish to thank ATI for making the drivers available, and all the people
- who said "what's your problem, works fine for me" for forcing me to go
- back and examine my own actions. The problem was not with where the
- aperture was set, although the way these beta drivers behave when
- NT is initializing led me to believe so (there is visible flicker on the
- screen, which implied to me that video memory was being scanned or
- overwritten incorrectly, turns out that this is not the case, the
- flicker happens all the time).
-
- BTW, the new drivers work even better and faster; kudos to the ATI
- developers!
-
- I recommend that anyone who has one get the latest drivers from cica....
-
- And one more note for the people who were concerned about getting the
- ATI Ultra Pro (Local Bus version) and were worried by my previous
- article: the new revision of the drivers are great, the card itself
- work fine with NT, is zippy, and ATI's development efforts to date seem
- to imply that they will certainly be directing their talent towards this
- OS (seems there have been grumblings about ATI from the OS/2 people, you
- think they'd know to wait for OS/3 [smiley goes here!] ....).
