  14. Just to follow up to my own article and help ease ATI's FUD problems:

  16. Let me say that I've gotten my the problem solved.  It seems I 
  17. overlooked one small detail in installing the drivers: power-cycling
  18. the machine.  it seems that enabling the aperture and saving that state
  19. to the EEPROM requires a power cycle for the card to re-read the
  20. settings....

  22. I wish to thank ATI for making the drivers available, and all the people
  23. who said "what's your problem, works fine for me" for forcing me to go
  24. back and examine my own actions.  The problem was not with where the
  25. aperture was set, although the way these beta drivers behave when
  26. NT is initializing led me to believe so (there is visible flicker on the
  27. screen, which implied to me that video memory was being scanned or
  28. overwritten incorrectly, turns out that this is not the case, the
  29. flicker happens all the time).

  31. BTW, the new drivers work even better and faster; kudos to the ATI
  32. developers!

  34. I recommend that anyone who has one get the latest drivers from cica....

  36. And one more note for the people who were concerned about getting the
  37. ATI Ultra Pro (Local Bus version) and were worried by my previous
  38. article: the new revision of the drivers are great, the card itself
  39. work fine with NT, is zippy, and ATI's development efforts to date seem
  40. to imply that they will certainly be directing their talent towards this
  41. OS (seems there have been grumblings about ATI from the OS/2 people, you
  42. think they'd know to wait for OS/3 [smiley goes here!] ....).
