  11. As a rule, Microsoft will not answer mail sent to their Compu$erve accounts
  12. from non-Compu$erve users (presumably because it costs Compu$erve users extra
  13. to read mail from Internet).  The general procedure for asking questions, 
  14. though, is not to send mail, but rather to post to the appropriate forum.
  15. There is no way to post to or read from any forum without logging on to
  16. Compu$erve directly with your own, personal CIS userid.

  18. The short answer to your question is "you can only do it from your
  19. Compu$erve account".  You can contact Microsoft's Product Support
  20. Services (PSS), 1-800-227-4679 for details on various other support
  21. options.  They include telephone assistance (for C/C++ it is
  22. 1-206-635-7007), Microsoft Download Services (1-206-936-6735).

  24. While Compu$erve seems to have taken steps to make their system more 
  25. reasonable (a flat $8 per month with no usage fees) for basic services
  26. (news, encyclopedia, stock prices, etc), extended services like Microsoft's
  27. forums still incur hourly rates (roughly $23/hour at 9600bps, $13/hour at
  28. 2400 and 1200bps, and $7/hour at 300bps) and are prohibitive for individual
  29. users like us.  With smart computing techniques (writing messages off-line
  30. and transmitting them quickly when you log on) you can minimize bills, but
  31. you still can't afford to sit and browse the system.

  33. If you have a CD system, you can also look into Microsoft's Developer Network
  34. CD, which is $30 (I think).  You can call the 1-800 number to get details.
