  16. I spent several days trying to install NT October Beta on an IBM PS/2 M80 A31
  17. machine.  I would get through the phase 1 portion fine, but when phase 2 was
  18. entered (system booted NT) and the rest of the system was being installed off
  19. of the CD-ROM, the system would hang.  If I changed the amount of system memory
  20. the hang would occur at a different place (% install complete).
  21. After each hang, I would have to go back and reformat the partition because
  22. the install process would not let me re-install over the same directory name.

  24. I then attempted to install the July Beta.  With this system, instead of a
  25. hang I got an error popup window stating that there were nonfatal read errors
  26. on the CD-ROM drive.

  28. In desperation, I removed the CD-ROM from the M80 and installed it in an
  29. IBM PS/2 M95.  On this system, I had no problems with the install.

  31. It would appear that there is some problem with the CD-ROM device driver
  32. when running on the M80 A31 hardware.  That system has the IBM internal
  33. SCSI adapter card, just as does the M95.  The BOOT install operating system
  34. does not have any problems reading the drive nor does OS/2.

  36. Has anyone heard of this problem before?
