- When considering the problem of storing icons a friend of mine found a prog,
- (forget the name, sorry) that stores them as exe's and let's you export the
- image to your favorite icon editor in order to use it. Basically you run the
- program and this program displays the icons neatly so you can use the ones
- you want to export and customize/whatever. This method turns out to be more
- efficient than storing the equivalent icons as .ico files.
-
- However, we hit upon the idea of storing them as gifs instead. Most people
- have some kind of Gif/BMP viewer (wingif is excellent shareware) and all you
- have to do is assemble the icons in a paint program (like paintbrush!) then
- when you're done convert them to GIFs. This method is perhaps 1/8th the
- size of storing as .exe's which are themselves more efficient than storing
- icons normally. Plus this has the added bonus of allowing the user to
- organize the icons into categories by the GIF filename. This works rather
- well actually. _I_ don't plan to have a whole floppy FULL of icons anymore
- since they will now fit into a few small GIF files.
-
- Oh, btw, trimming the GIF's closely helps a lot too.
-
- Any comments?
