  16.   Oh yes! time to bash Microsoft! I have had a number of idiotic problems
  17.   with installing drivers and related software, the most notably stupid of
  18.   which was:

  20.    While installing Diamond stealth VRAM drivers, SETUP asks me to specify
  21.    where the files are. I am using drive b: so I specify that drive. It
  22.    read a number of files correctly, then spins drive a for a moment and
  23.    tells me there is a read error on drive a! What the ^%$@ does drive a:
  24.    have to do with installing software off of drive b: ???? So I call a
  25.    tech rep at Diamond who quickly acknowledges this as a bug in Microsoft
  26.    SETUP and tells me that if I put a disk, any disk, into drive a: that
  27.    the install will complete fine. It does. What the %$#@%$???  It shows
  28.    that Microsoft is getting to be a big company. They will get farther and
  29.    farther away from being able to supply consistently useful software. I
  30.    am almost glad, in that this allows third parties to develop a market
  31.    for themselves, but with the way Microsoft holds all the cards to their
  32.    chest, it may turn into a giant legal warzone.  I hope that we can all
  33.    come up with excellent third party alternatives to MS that will leave
  34.    them embarrassed and apologetic.
