- The high profile software market is not necessarily the best
- one for individual consumers. In a way, the slew of PC magazines
- which emphasize products from Microsoft, Borland, Lotus, etc., is
- hurting the the market. You can get excellent software from
- less visible companies if you are willing to look around. PC Write
- is still a good deal. Ditto for 4DOS, The $25 Network, Power BASIC,
- etc. Smaller companies who don't get the benefit of free
- adverstising often try harder to please their customers. And
- those big packages like Microsoft Word are usually overkill
- for someone that doesn't need to produce newsletters and annual
- reports.
