- Most profuse apologies. I looked through the FAQ, and activity on
- comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware, and couldn't find a meaningful treatise on
- just what the specific differences between the various UARTs available
- is. I'm aware of the venerable 8250, 16450, 16550 and 16550a, but
- I wish two things. Are there any other cardinal types of UARTs, and
- what technically distinguishes these?

- My underlying desire is to be able to support a very fast modem. That,
- and to know everything just for the fun of it.
