- A while back I recall a number of people posting Linux
- 'benchmarks' based on how long it took their machine to
- rebuild the kernel. The less time it took, the faster the
- machine.
-
- I'm currently rebuilding the 0.98.5 kernel and believe I
- will weigh in with the *worst* benchmark in Linux history.
- The machine doing the compiling is a '386-16 with 2Mb ram
- and a 35 Mb Linux-MINIX partition and a 6 Mb swap partition.
- I started the build this morning around 10 am and right now
- (1:13 pm) its only up to the SCSI code. I'd say that's
- probably about 3/4 through all of the modules. I figure
- it'll be done sometime around 2:30 or 3 pm.
-
- This little UNIX is a tribute to its author(s). The
- fact that I can compile *anything* on this hunk-of-junk PC
- is near miraculous.
