  10.     A while back I recall a number of people posting Linux
  11. 'benchmarks' based on how long it took their machine to
  12. rebuild the kernel.  The less time it took, the faster the
  13. machine.

  15.     I'm currently rebuilding the 0.98.5 kernel and believe I
  16. will weigh in with the *worst* benchmark in Linux history.
  17. The machine doing the compiling is a '386-16 with 2Mb ram
  18. and a 35 Mb Linux-MINIX partition and a 6 Mb swap partition.
  19. I started the build this morning around 10 am and right now
  20. (1:13 pm) its only up to the SCSI code.  I'd say that's
  21. probably about 3/4 through all of the modules.  I figure
  22. it'll be done sometime around 2:30 or 3 pm.

  24.     This little UNIX is a tribute to its author(s).  The
  25. fact that I can compile *anything* on this hunk-of-junk PC
  26. is near miraculous.
