  16. I have been trying to get 0.99 to boot on my 486 tonight, with no
  17. luck.  It's dying in a very strange (to me) place...
  18.  
  19. The system comes up and appears to sense all of the devices, until
  20. it gets to the call to move_to_user_mode() in init/main.c.  When
  21. this call is made, the system just hangs.  I can't even
  22. ctl-alt-del reboot.  I have to reset the machine.

  24. I'm not very 80x86 assembler literate, so I'm not sure what
  25. move_to_user_mode() is trying to do.  Is it 'supposed' to return to
  26. main?  If so, it is not.  I put a printk() before and after it, and
  27. the one before prints, but nothing thereafter.

  29. My system is a 486 w/ 8Meg, IDE drives, no-SCSI (tried with SCSI
  30. configured in and out...no change), no ethernet (but have TCP in my
  31. 0.98-5 kernel w/ no problems...and sock_init() appears to work, just
  32. complains about no ethernet card).

  34. I'd really like to get .99 up...and tested out on my machine before
  35. the holidays.

  37. Does anyone have any pointers on where to proceed from here?
