  16. I sent linux to friends of mine in Romania. linux on 386s runs fine,
  17. thank you, but they have the following difficulty: most of their PCs are
  18. tied up in Novell Netware networks and those PCs, except for the
  19. servers, are 286s (which cannot run linux/386bsd).

  21. They would like to have linux/386bsd on the server and have dumb terminal
  22. windows (for emacs or vi for example) or even X windows on the 286
  23. slaves. Of course the point is to have access to the rich Unix
  24. programmming environment available on linux/386bsd.
  25. I have to mention there are several (not just one) 286s connected to a 386
  26. server. In Romania, there are hundreds of 286 running just dos/windows,
  27. and I'd like to change that...

  29. I wonder if any of you has any experience in this area? I would
  30. appreciate learning first of all about public domain tools, but if that
  31. is not possible,...

  33. I'd like to mention that Philip Copeland (Sys Admin)
  34. <p_copela@csd.uwe-bristol.ac.uk>, the resident linux  comm guru, has
  35. informed me about the existence of a package from CDC, called

  42. which allows one to open X windows on the slaves running Windows. But I
  43. would not mind at all having acces to some other experiences and
  44. preferably referring to public domain stuff..

  46. The network cards seem to be ne1000/2000, if this makes any difference
  47. (I intend to suggest them to use the drivers by D. Becker on the
  48. server).
