- Hello fellow linuxers,
- I'm new at using Linux(coming from DOS and OS/2) and am having some
- problems getting LILO to make Linux bootable. I've install 0.98.5 of SLS
- release of Linux and am using OS/2 boot manager. I've been programming for
- a while, boot am kinda new to make files, and am not quite sure that Lilo
- is compiled correctly, but I think it is. I've read every thing I can get
- my hands on(FAQs, etc), but am clueless. This is my setup:
-
- /dev/hda1 extende partition(OS/2)
- /dev/hda2 primary part.(ext linux fs)
- /dev/hda3 primary part.(boot manager)
- /dev/hda4 primary part.(dos FAT)
-
- I used the command:
-
- /etc/lilo/lilo -c -b /dev/hda2 -v -v /Image
-
- plus many variants with no success. Lilo says that it's reading the boot sector
-
- and then says something about not finding valid
- Lilo signature and quits. Any suggestions would be appreciated. After this
- gets solved, I'll have some questions about getting X windows working - I can't
- get it to work, even in mono. It appears that it is trying to use a VGA mode
- (color) that my card doesn't support, saying that my card isn't supported.
- My card is a Paradise with 512K though. When I have some time to investigate,
- I'll have a better description, and more questions.
-
- Thanks
- Robert(gt4260b@prism.gatech.edu)
