- Thanks to a few extremely helpful readers of this group I now have
- Linux up and running on my hard drive. I'm having problems with X though.
- X works great, IF I'm logged in as root, when I log in as a user and
- try "startx" it gives me the following errors:
-
- + xinit /home/hennigan1/gary/.xinitrc -- /usr/X386/lib/X11/xinit/xserverrc
- Setting TCP SO_LINGER: Protocol not available
-
- giving up.
- xinit: Invalid argument (errno 22): unable to connect to X server
- xinit: No such process (errno 3): Server error.
-
- I believe I read in the documentation for my ALPHA S3 server that
- TCP wasn't implemented yet, thus the TCP SO_LINGER error, but the xinit
- errors only show up when I'm logged in as a user. As stated it works GREAT
- when I log in as root!
-
- Any ideas, again, are greatyly appreciated!
