  13.     Thanks to a few extremely helpful readers of this group I now have
  14. Linux up and running on my hard drive. I'm having problems with X though.
  15.     X works great, IF I'm logged in as root, when I log in as a user and
  16. try "startx" it gives me the following errors:

  18. + xinit /home/hennigan1/gary/.xinitrc -- /usr/X386/lib/X11/xinit/xserverrc
  19. Setting TCP SO_LINGER: Protocol not available
  20.  
  21. giving up.
  22. xinit:  Invalid argument (errno 22):  unable to connect to X server
  23. xinit:  No such process (errno 3):  Server error.

  25.     I believe I read in the documentation for my ALPHA S3 server that
  26. TCP wasn't implemented yet, thus the TCP SO_LINGER error, but the xinit
  27. errors only show up when I'm logged in as a user. As stated it works GREAT
  28. when I log in as root!
