- Well, I just reinstalled SLS for the third time. (It gets easier with
- practice!) And this time...X works! Many many thanks to the people who
- mailed me Xconfigs to get me going!
-
- However, I have a slight problem... X is slower than MS Windows on an XT! It
- took it about an hour to start up, mouse movements are recognized only after
- a 2-3 minute wait, and it takes almost ten minutes for keystrokes to appear
- in bash...
-
- Since I see a large amount of disk thrashing, I assume that there is a lot
- of swapping going on. Since I have only 4 megs of RAM, and a ~6 meg swap
- partition, this is not surprising. But does it have to be this slow? I had
- thought that X was usable with 4 megs RAM -- was I wrong? Please say no!
-
- My system is a 486 SX/25.
-
- Many thanks!
