- I have a question regarding the Xwindows isntallation in the standard
- SLS distribution. I installed the SLS with Base+gcc+X11, and set up the
- Xconfig with an Xconfig that was posted by a previous user. I am using
- a trident 8900C, 386-40/387-40 etc. (Shadow turned off on Video and
- Bios) 4MB Ram/10MB swap file. When I type "startx 2>x.err" the screen changes
- to the correct mode (I can tell it is correct because I can see stuff from
- a previos Windows session which runs in the same mode..). The screen is
- never "Tile-ed" with the dotted background. I assume the server has stoped
- before it got to clearing the screen. I can do a Ctrl-Alt-Backspace,
- Ctrl-C to get back to the prompt (Which I can't see...) The font path
- seems correct, the DISPLAY variable is set to :0, and the video modes
- seem correct. When I sync/sync/reboot, the x.err file says
-
- xinit: unexpected signal 2
-
- waiting for server tp shut down ...
-
- Is the signal 2 from where I did the Ctrl-Alt-Backspace?
- I am gussing that this problem has something to
- do with the way I have Linux set up or something, as apposed to
- a video problem. I had a paradise board before, that worked with an
- older X11 and Linux, that also didn't work (same symtoms..).
- I thought I went through everything in the FAQ (/dev/console linked
- correctly,Path set up, Envir var set,X linked to X386,X as root)
-
- (by the way, the SLS is what I think is the latest, .98pl5.
- I also installed Xfree1.1 (as opposed to the 1.0ya that is in
- SLS) and got exactly the same thing..)
-
- Is there somthing obvious that I am missing?
-
- Thanks for any help you might render me!
