  21. Since your 'dir' and ls commands don't work in the transcript
  22. you gave, why do you expect the FAQ to even be there or be transmitted
  23. correctly? Just grab it from sunsite.unc.edu, directory /pub/Linux/docs.

  30. NEW USERS: WHERE TO GET THE LINUX FAQ (please read)

  32. In response to the numerous postings that continually ask questions covered
  33. in the FAQ for this group, I'm going to post this article to reiterate where
  34. new readers and users of Linux can find the FAQ. I will post it for a while.
  35. It suppliments the Meta-FAQ. :)

  37. PLEASE: EVERYONE read the FAQ for this group before posting questions. Many 
  38. people (myself included) worked hard to produce the FAQ to accurately answer 
  39. all of your questions. The new version of the FAQ (with many updates, 
  40. clarifications, etc.) will only come out every month! So you won't see it 
  41. posted that often. In the meantime you'll have to get it in one of the
  42. following ways:
  43.  
  44. 1)  ftp to tsx-11.mit.edu. It's the file /pub/linux/FAQ. It's one big
  45.     ASCII file (about 150k). 
  46. or  ftp to sunsite.unc.edu. It's the file /pub/Linux/docs/FAQ. Again, one
  47.     big ASCII file, same thing as on tsx-11.mit.edu.

  49. 2)  If you don't have FTP access, you can retrieve it via the mailserver at
  50.     pit-manager.mit.edu. Send mail to mail-server@pit-manager.mit.edu with the
  51.     word "help" in the body.
  52. or  If you simply can't find the FAQ, I will mail it to you myself. Just
  53.     send me mail (mdw@tc.cornell.edu).

  55. 3)  The most recent FAQ will be posted to comp.os.linux and news.answers
  56.     every month (if you want to wait...).
