- After wading through several of the suggested documents for beginners, I
- have been unable to find a solution to the following problem:
-
- After partitioning my disk (723 cylinders, 13 heads, 51 sectors), with
- approximately 60MB for the minix filesystem, I ran mkfs with the number of
- blocks fdisk told me I had in that partition. 'mkfs' promptly told me it
- could not make a filesystem with more than 30000 blocks. I have no clue how
- blocks relate to megabytes, but it seems to me that 30000 is not all that
- much. (Have I just labeled myself not worthy of linux?)
-
- In the document INSTALL-0.96, the example given was a 47MB partition,
- which I think is more than 30000 Blocks. Again I don't understand the
- relationship.
-
- Could someone please help me here. I've had it up to ->here with dos and
- I'm dying to get linux and X11 running on my system. I know 60MB seems like
- a lot for a beginner, but I'd rather not have to partition my HD again, and
- I plan on doing a fair amount of (Xwindows) programming. If this still seems
- excessive please say so.
