-
- Sure - it's cheap, slow and ... junk-ware for a UNIX-system!
-
- Look at _ANY_ SCSI QIC-150 1/4" streamer and you find the answer
- yourself. Many system vendors have built-in 150 MB 1/4" SCSI streamers
- as 'maintenance tape' (SILICON Graphics, IBM etc.) for the distributed
- OS and products and you may even get an SCO-Unix installation kit on
- that kind of media.

- Thanks for that statement, Rick!
- The real answer at all is a decent and stable SCSI environment!
- It seems that the MWC crew never heard the word 'industrial standard'
- (the Adaptec-1542 is such a thing!) and further it seems that they
- have no idea what it could mean to cling to industrial standards ...
-
- What MWC showed with COH' V4.x is real junk. You don't believe this?
-
- a) On my ol' 386sx/16 (YES, that slow!) with an ADAPTEC-1542B and
- WangTek 1/4"-SCSI-Tape running SCO-ODT 1.1, a whole 150MB tape
- restored in 45 minutes. (~60KB/s)
-
- b) On my COH'-Box 386/40-AMD (3 times as fast!, same SCSI controller)
- moving a 60MB NEWS-area to a new disk took nearly took 2 hours -
- Disk-to-Disk! (~8KB/s)
-
-
-
- >Tape drives that connect to floppy controllers suck.
-
- To say it more clearly:
- Promoting DOS junk-ware is not the way to get a UNIX-like-OS fixed
- on the market ... it is waste of time!
-
- With the ADAPTEC-1542B one will have ONE controller for EVERYTHING:
-
- - Disks (NOT only two and sizes up to 2GB each)
- - Tapes (60 MB to 5 GB, 1/4", DAT and EXABYTE)
- - CD-ROM
- - Printers/Plotters (which support SCSI)
-
- ... and with high-performance, though! (3-5 times faster)
- Just wait and see ... 'til COH' comes as a swaping system ...
-
-
- Come on MWC guys - first promote what is worth to do. Maybe there is
- no need anymore, to bang your heads against junk-ware-drivers, if
- people realize what a decicated high-performance parallel peripheral
- bus-system offers. That's what SCSI _IS_! and what the ADAPTEC-1542B
- offers - not just a thingabum disk controller.
