  18. Hmm.  Well, the Minix shell behaves that way also.  One of the reasons is
  19. that in the older Unixes, pressing ESC generated that character, and you
  20. had to hit CTRL-ESC to actually generate an ascii 27.

  22. Why?  Lost in the history of Unix somewhere.  What I think MWC meant was that
  23. it is not a bug, but a valid way for the shell to handle the ` character and
  24. gave an example of another system that did the same.  But you talked to them,
  25. not I, so I won't second guess ;)
