- Hello,
- I was wondering if anyone can help me with my problem, and I
- apologize if this is the wrong group, but I couldn't find one that I
- thought was more suited to this question.
-
- My problem is that I had 4M of SIMMS (3 chip) installed in 4 1M
- increments into my Positive Corp. 386SX Clone, and when I use the
- smartdrv.sys driver, I will get an error that says "Ram Parity Error,
- press ESC to turn off NMI, any other key to reboot...". My original
- system setup had 4 256K (3chip) SIMMS installed and it worked fine with
- the smartdrv.sys driver but it only cached 192K, which is not ideal for
- what I wish to accomplish.
-
- My questions are as follows:
- 1.) What are the possible causes of this error? I have been told many
- different explanations from bad chips(RAM), to bad interface between my
- BIOS and my RAM, using 3-chip RAMS instead of 9-chip, they all seem
- feasible, however I need to know which is correct.
- 2.) What are my options? And the ramifications of those options?
-
- Any help is greatly appreciated in advance....
-
- BTW, I am running DOS5.0, both IBM-dos & MS-dos produce the same error.
