- FSUUCP has regarding long >>NEWSGROUP<< filenames. When I was using the
- supplementary program that would go through an active file and create all the
- news subdirectories (can't recall the name... fixactive? makeactive? guh..),
- it would fail to make them because of the long newsgroup filenames. UUPC's
- approach is to use an '8+3' naming convention, and ignoring the trailing name
- of the newsgroup. Arguably, this could cause problems for anything that's not
- unique after the first 11 characters, but as Drew Derbyshire at Kendra
- pointed out: it's a pretty rare case.
