  21.                1993 IEEE/CS Symposium on Visual Languages
  22.                    August 24-27, 1993, Bergen, Norway

  25. The 1993 IEEE Visual Languages Symposium will be held in scenic Norway.
  26. Participation is welcome in many forms:
  27.  
  28.      o  TECHNICAL PAPERS (research contributions which are best
  29.         presented orally in the traditional format).
  30.  
  31.      o  POSTERS (research contributions which are best presented
  32.         visually).
  33.  
  34.      o  VIDEOS (either in conjunction with a paper or poster, or
  35.         as a self-contained presentation).
  36.  
  37.      o  PANEL SESSIONS on timely issues.
  38.  
  39.      o  Pre-symposium TUTORIALS (half-day format preferred) on state
  40.         of the art approaches and emerging areas.
  41.  
  42.      o  Pre-symposium WORKSHOPS (full-day format preferred) to
  43.         thrash out open issues and prepare reports to the workshop.
  44.  
  45. In addition to the traditional areas of interest to the IEEE/VL workshops
  46. in previous years, which relate to all aspects of visual languages, visual
  47. programming and program visualization, we encourage submissions which
  48. broaden the theme of ``not just text'' by exploring multimodal environments
  49. (e.g., those which use sound as well as graphics to supplement text).
  50. Technical papers and posters may fall into any of several categories:
  51.  
  52.      o  Significant, original research results of a theoretical or
  53.         applied nature.
  54.  
  55.      o  Exposition of the ``look and feel'' and internal workings of
  56.         an implemented system.
  57.  
  58.      o  Surveys which compare/critique in-depth alternative algorithms
  59.         or systems.
  60.  
  61. THE DEADLINE FOR ALL SUBMISSIONS IS MARCH 12, 1993. Papers and posters
  62. should be prepared in accordance with standard IEEE two-column conference
  63. format; 7 copies (maximum length 8 pages, including all figures) should
  64. be submitted to the Program Co-Chair/USA at the address given below. One
  65. copy of videos, or e-mail notice of intent to submit a video, should be
  66. sent to the Video Program Chair. Proposals to organize tutorials, panels
  67. and workshops should be sent, via e-mail, to the Tutorials Program Chair.
  68. Submissions of all types will be refereed in the customary manner, with
  69. notification of acceptance by late April or early May. See you in Bergen!!
