- your assumption is that he needs to do real-time work. For real-time (ie:
- interactive/simulation) work, you're absolutely right: the SGI line is beyond
- compare... but realistically speaking, most people don't need that. I think
- (I may very welll be wrong) that the original poster was interested in creating
- off-line animation... presumably for production of some sort (tv, multimedia,
- whatever) and thus has no need of 100k gouraud triangles/s... and anyway, even
- the *low* end SGI boxes can bop a hell of a lot of polys around when you stick
- the geometry engine in them... I can grab an Indigo for $5k, but it's a base-
- line model, with no engine and 8-bit display... nice for off-line work, but
- there are no *good* modelers in my (or presumably, our original poster's)
- price range... I'd agree with the Ami for real work, as well, but I have not
- had adequate experience with their modelers... I know they produce 'nice'
