-
- Ken - as one of those stirring up the NAPLPS pot as much as I can as
- a low-bandwidth, but standards-based solution to a whole range of
- telecom tasks - I guess I hear from a lot of Naplps
- users/developers. So we have a maillist going, linking users,
- developers, and interested parties.
-
- If you (or anyone else who is interested) send e-mail to
-
- naplps_graphics@oldcolo.com
-
- say you want to be added, a little about yourself, and your interest
- in Naplps, you will be added. This list is not large (about 25 right
- now) and not heavy traffic, but the only linked-discussion anywhere
- on the subject.
-
- Our software permits the e-maillist to be further linked to a
- newsgroup, and further to a corresponding fidonet, or TBBS (using
- uucp) or Mac Firstclass (using uucp) echo. A lot of vitality is
- going on in products to make any Fido-protocol BBS, or commercial
- TBBS system - at both the menuing and the TDBS (data base) level
- into a dual Naplps-Ascii presentation system.
-
- For those who can't stand maillists, I am slowly getting either a
- comp.graphics.naplps or alt.naplps newsgroup started. But then there
- are members of our list who have no such access to newsgroups, are
- on AT&T mail or such, so want it this way.
-
- Now as to the answer to your question - boy we REALLY could use some
- conversion software. Even if it is two-step. There is some, but not
- much. Of course, as you know, you can convert bitmapped images to
- 'incremental point' NAPLPS, but which usually also requires a decent
- graphics editor to scale the image and place it. Not a lot of
- savings but better than nothing.
-
- Then there is one recent product by Mitsubishi called Quick Trace,
- which converts TIFF to EPS, CGM and Micrografx Graphics File (.PIC
- or .DRW). Which I found can then load into Draw Perfect and export
- to Videoshow, which is basically NAPLPS. Two steps. But better than
- none.
-
- Now whether you join the naplps_graphics maillist, or not, please
- keep me informed of your product, for I know LOTS of people just
- getting into the flexible secrets of Naplps (and ignoring all advice
- to forget it), who want, short of direct scan-in Naplps format,
- conversion routines.
