- I posted a while ago about wierd problems with my keyboard under DEMACS.
- Well, I found a way to make those problems go away, but I'll be damned if I
- understand why. If I take \WINDOWS\HIMEM.SYS out of my CONFIG.SYS, the keyboard
- then acts normally!! I'm assuming that what is happening is that DEMACS wants a
- flat address space, and some kind of DOS brain-damaged "page everything into and
- out of a 16K spot in "high memory" stuff" is hosing DEMACS. If there is another
- explanation that makes sense, feel free to let me know. (Actually, since the
- application that I'm working on is showing some kind of conflict also, PLEASE
- feel free to let me know what might be happening here.)
-
- Now, however, I have a new problem. My <ALT> key no longer functions as
- a Meta key. Before removing HIMEM.SYS, I could get <ALT> to set a Meta bit, just
- like it's supposed to. Now no way. I'm afraid I've been using Emacs on real
- keyboards/machines way too long to go back to using <ESC><key>. Does anyone know
- how I can get my Meta key back? (And while I'm at it, does anyone have a TSR or
- something to swap the &^%$%#(* CAPS LOCK key and the <CTRL> key to the spaces
- God meant for them to occupy?)
-
- Thanks.
