- I suggest that everyone who uses my Intel/DVI compatible ADPCM coder
- routines grab a new version off ftp.cwi.nl:/pub/adpcm.shar.
-
- This version (V1.1) fixes a bug in the predicted-value update. Besides
- being incompatible with other Intel/DVI coders (if any exist:-) this
- caused a pretty serious loss of quality. The buggy version had 4-8%
- distortion on average where the fixed version has only 1-2%
- (comparable if not lower than uLAW/ALAW coders).
-
- In case you don't have a clue what I'm talking about: adpcm.shar is a
- set of two routines to convert 16 bit linear audio samples to 4 bit
- Adaptive Delta Pulse Code Modulation samples and back, resulting in a
- 4-fold compression at only a moderate loss of quality.
