- I'll take anyone's word *if* they're a big enough company *and* they
- give it in writing. Even if the hardware I buy now doesn't eventually
- support the real standard, I'd expect such a company to upgrade the
- modem by straight swap if necessary.

- I'm more worried about whether they'll *charge* (or charge significantly)
- for an upgrade in 2 years time when the standard is settled. No point in
- saying 'by our $1000 modem now and we'll make sure you're upgraded' if you
- have to pay more big bucks for that upgrade. Anyone (like Motorola) saying
- now that they'll upgrade ought to also say under what conditions.
