  18.    Don't get me wrong, retraining (with fallback and fallforward) is important 
  19. to modem performance, but the ZyXEL seems to be too sensitive.  Relocating the 
  20. modem and the phone cable seems to have helped: I now get an average of one 
  21. retrain per connect, and it rarely has to fall back.

  23.    It's possible that the problem was a temporary line impairment, which 
  24. explains why the GVC SM-144 and FM-144 had no problems before and why the 
  25. ZyXEL isn't having problems now.  I am investigating further.

  29.    Do you have black cases made, or do you just paint them?  I'd *love* to put 
  30. black cases on my ZyXEL 1496E and Telebit 1000 to match the black tower case
