- A recent article in MacUser (November '92) indicated that Zoom V32bis
- modems
- have problems handling attenuation distortion, found typically in rural
- areas with long subscriber loops. They were incapable of negotiating
- a connection in this environment. Other modems with this problem were the
- TwinCom 14.4/DF, PSI COMstation 5, and Logicode Quicktel Xeba. The
- Teleglobe
- DA3214 and the PSI also had problems with phase jitter and echo as found on
- long cross-country lines. If you need a modem which can handle noisy
- lines,
- the UDS Motorola V.3229 is outstanding, and the Supra FAXModem V.32bis and
- Practical Peripherals PM14400FXSA also did very well. If you want to keep
- trying with the Zoom modems, make sure you have the latest PROM (V1.2)
- which
- can be obtained free from Zoom customer service (they do answer on the rare
- occasion you don't get a busy signal... autodialer recommended). To check
- your PROM revision, type the command "ATI3".
