  11. Abaton Modems are now Everex modems, but Everex has discontinued support of
  12. Macintosh products (at least here in Canada, but I was told "everywhere!"),
  13. so you are now a friend of an officially orphaned investment (OOI!).

  15. However, I notice in today's news listings that Everex is in deep financial
  16. straits, which may presage the breakup of the company. (Losses of 80-120
  17. MILLION for last year, and high losses for 1st qtr. this year; CEO and CFO
  18. both have quit, effective immediately.)

  20. So, soon your friend's Abaton/Everex Macintosh modem might be obsolescent,
  21. rather than just an orphan.

  23. (Tell him not to feel too bad: I just installed an Abaton with InterShare on
  24. a company's network--now they got nowhere to go for upgrades, etc.)
