- Sounds like tip is seeing a result code from the modem, and that result
- code isn't one tip recognizes as a successful connection.
-
- What are the modem's register settings? If you have Q0 X2, the modem will
- report "DIALING" as it starts to dial the touch-tones. The modem will also
- report "RRING" (for "Remote RING") when it hears the other end start ringing.
-
- Either one of those events could cause tip to believe that the call failed.
- Based on my experience with the SunOS tip, I'd say tip assumes the modem
- will say nothing until the call attempt is finished. I.e., no such thing
- as progress reports - the first result code is the connect status. If the
- result code isn't on tip's list of "connection" codes, it's assumed to be
- a "failed" code.
-
- The stock SunOS tip mistakes the Telebit "DIALING" and "RRING" as failed
- connection codes, and aborts the call. It also fails to recognize connect
- codes for speeds above 1200 bps.
-
- The solution for most Telebit users on Sun workstations is to set the modem
- to X1 or X0. Then the modem doesn't return codes that tip can't handle.
- There is a patch for the Sun tip that lets it properly recognize Telebit
- modem codes, but that won't help you on your 3100. Try putting an ATX0 or
- ATX1 command after the ATZ command in your acucap entry.
