- A USR HST with square LEDs can't take the R9696, but you can add the
- missing ICs and will get a real Dual with V.32bis. Normally you only
- have to add the missing parts, the ROMs are the ones for the Dual and
- the new features will automatically recognized.
-
- Now the parts list:
-
- Needed parts to upgrade a USR HST to a USR Dual

- All prices are in DM because this upgrade was developed in Germany and
- I have only translated the necessary things.
- All together will make around 200 DM (~ $125)
-
- To make the upgrade, you should know how to handle a soldering iron.
- Static discharge can destroy ICs!!!
-
- Every 8 k x 8 SRAM with an access time with 25 ns or less should
- work. You need the narrow version.
- There are no problems to get the DSP in Germany, but I don't know
- about the USA.
-
- This partlist is very polular in germany, a friend upgraded 5 HSTs to
- Duals and all are still working (now as Duals).
-
- Remember: You will void your warranty, if you make this modifikation!!!
-
- If you do it the wrong way and your modem is killed, thats your problem,
- not mine!! The PCB used is a multilayer, be careful as you remove the
- solder from the holes. Use only first quality parts.
-
- This modifikation is only for personal use, not for commercial use!
-
- Have fun with your new Dual...
