  20. A USR HST with square LEDs can't take the R9696, but you can add the
  21. missing ICs and will get a real Dual with V.32bis. Normally you only
  22. have to add the missing parts, the ROMs are the ones for the Dual and
  23. the new features will automatically recognized.

  60. I have only translated the necessary things.

  63. To make the upgrade, you should know how to handle a soldering iron.
  64. Static discharge can destroy ICs!!!

  66. Every 8 k x 8 SRAM with an access time with 25 ns or less should
  67. work. You need the narrow version. 
  68. There are no problems to get the DSP in Germany, but I don't know
  69. about the USA.

  71. This partlist is very polular in germany, a friend upgraded 5 HSTs to
  72. Duals and all are still working (now as Duals).

  74. Remember: You will void your warranty, if you make this modifikation!!!

  76. If you do it the wrong way and your modem is killed, thats your problem,
  77. not mine!! The PCB used is a multilayer, be careful as you remove the
  78. solder from the holes. Use only first quality parts.
