  10. Hello, I am having trouble making modem connections on a Sun
  11. SparcStation 2.  The syptoms are that whenever I try to login to the
  12. sparc over the modem line (setup in accordance with SUNs
  13. documentation) often (not always) the modem connected to the sparc
  14. will answer - connect - then disconnect.  I never see the login
  15. prompt.

  17. After reading several news posts I changed the gettytab on the sparc
  18. to this:

  23. (actually, I just added the p8 and crtscts part the rest of the file
  24. is just as shipped by sun)

  26. This didn't seem to help.  Changing the gettytab only changes the port
  27. for incoming calls - what 'mode' does the sparc dial out as? (ie. 7E1,
  28. 8N1, ??) what controls the dial-out mode?  I am trying to get UUCP
  29. working and to support dial-in and dial-out.  When the calls succeed
  30. things seem to work ok (mail is transferred and other things happen).

  32. BTW: I am dialing from one sparc to another - both setup with the same
  33. modem and same config files.

  35. I have some knowledge of Unix - little knowledge of modems.  Any help
  36. would be appreciated.  Thank you.
