My friend and I both have Supra V32bis faxmodems, with v1.200-H ROMS. We don't generally have problems logging onto other boards, only when we try and connect to each other. Here's what happens:
We both set port speed to 19200. (+ RTS/CTS) We've also tried it with much higher baud rates.
1) We both do AT&F2, then one dials the other. 2) Phone rings, ATA to pick it up. 3) Carrier cycles around - locks on. 4) CD in LED display, but no CONNECT string yet 5) LOADS of garbage from modem. 6) either drops the line, or hangs
OK - so I think - maybe it's the compression/correction negotiations which is causing this garbage
I try AT\N%C0
1) No effect, still garbage. (but at least we don't get LP or DC in the LED)
OK - maybe if I try to limit the connection to 12000 or 9600.
1) AT&F2 then ATS37=9 2) THIS DOES NOT WORK. The last few times we tried it, we got '96', '72' then '144' in the window, then the modem dropped, all before I got CONNECT. 3) even with ATN too, to limit the connection to 9600 only, it doesn't work.
We often get RT appearing in the LED, which doesn't seem to help at all.
I know that a lot of people have had no trouble with this machine. I have seen many of your at&v dumps, but none worked.
I have tried limiting the speeds used with s109, and although this does seem to limit the rates used, it doesn't improve reliability of connection. I've also tried limiting the speed with both s37 and s109 in conjunction, but this doesn't work either.
We have, on occasion, got a connection (never above 9600), after about 1/2 hour of trying, but even if we call again straight away, with exactly the same settings, it's no guarantee that it'll work.
To try and help me understand the problem, maybe someone can explain the following:
a) What exactly is the difference between a RETRAIN and RATE RENEGOTIATION.
b) If I do at%g0%e0, should that stop both of the above from being invoked, and if so, why does it still say RT when I do it?
c) What about the commands which start with '-' - do they work? I can't make them work. I quite wanted to try some.
d) Does anyone know if I can use the test modes to asses my situation, and if so, how?
