  40. Microsoft.

  42.          Microsoft Partners With Ingres to Extend ODBC Support 
  43.  
  44.     REDMOND, Wash. -- December 9, 1992 -- Microsoft Corporation and Ingres,
  45. an ASK Group company, today announce their partnership to provide connectivity
  46. from Microsoft Windows-based applications to INGRES database and connectivity
  47. products. The two companies will work together to deliver an ODBC driver for
  48. the INGRES Intelligent Database, the INGRES/Star distributed database and
  49. INGRES/Gateways to other major databases.

  51.     "Microsoft is pleased with the rapid acceptance and strong support
  52. being shown for ODBC," said Johnathan Lazarus, vice president, systems
  53. strategy. "The Ingres endoresement of ODBC is significant due to their
  54. leadership position in many markets worldwide."

  56.     As part of the agreement, Microsoft will distribute the INGRES ODBC
  57. driver and will license Ingres to distribute its ODBC Driver Manager. The
  58. INGRES ODBC driver and Microsoft's driver manager will be bundled in the
  59. INGRES/Net product for the Windows environment. INGRES/Net integrates PCs,
  60. workstations, departmental servers and mainframes into an enterprise-wide 
  61. data resource allowing client applications to transparently access INGRES
  62. and non-INGRES data anywhere in the network.

  65. client software," said Gary Elliott,  Managing Director for Ingres Australia.
  66. "Microsoft's ODBC parallels our strategy of providing transparent connectivity
  67. and interoperability between clients and multiple database servers."

  69.     Microsoft and Ingres plan to implement support for ODBC, in the form of
  70. the INGRES ODBC driver, in early 1993.
