- I am curious about how much work has been done to determine
- what is the least unpleasant-looking image degradation.
- Image-compression software/hardware can then be optimized to produce
- that kind of degradation if an image has to be seriously degraded to
- keep the compressed volume down.

- I got my idea on what one might shoot for as I was reading
- some railroad books which featured some excellent photography. Diesel
- locomotives produce clear (most of the time!) and hot exhaust, and
- looking through produces noticeable blurring. However, at least in the
- pictures I saw, there was plenty of area not in the line of sight of
- the exhaust, which provided good control areas.
