  17. I just got a hold of Telix 3.20.  There are a couple of new features
  18. (nothing mind-blowing, however), and the sorry addition of a "nag"
  19. screen for non-registered copies when you exit the program.
  20.  
  21. There is a new feature that allows you to swap the Telix program to
  22. XMS or disk to make room for the OS shell.  I recommend you not use
  23. this feature, as it has a bug.

  25. I have noticed, under OS/2 2.0 (but most likely under DOS as well) that
  26. if you try and make an outgoing call, then ALT-J (with the aforementioned 
  27. feature enabled) to shell to DOS; if you work away and then a connection
  28. is established (or the modem reports that the line is BUSY) this causes
  29. the session (or, in DOS's case, possible the entire machine) to freeze
  30. up and require rebooting.

  32. I believe this is caused by:
  33.  
  34. - COM interrupt possibly hooked by Telix to provide buffer management
  35. when Telix begins.
  36. - User uses ALT-J to shell to DOS, Telix swaps itself out of memory,
  37. COM port generates an IRQ while user is working in DOS, the IRQ causes
  38. a jump to the Telix handler (which has been swapped out of memory and
  39. potentially replaced by new code, data, or garbage).
  40. - CRASH!

  42. I have disabled this swap feature on my copy and the problem goes away.
  43. Now to load up the debugger and get rid of that annoying delayed "nag"
  44. message on exit!  :-)  (I'm *kidding*)
  45.  
  46. Follow-ups to comp.archives.msdos.d since comp.binaries.ibm.pc.archives
  47. no longer exists.
