- NeXTGo version 2.2.2 is now available for anonymous ftp from <dehn.mth.pdx.edu>
- in the /pub/go directory. Here is a list of the features and improvements:
-
- * The gnugo computer go playing algorithm built-in as an (admittedly
- weak) computer opponent. NeXTGo allows you to play the computer as
- either color or allows you to watch the computer play itself. You
- can also have two humans play each other.
-
- * A built-in client (using sockets to establish the connection) for the
- Internet Go Server. The client allows you to observe games (only one
- at a time, currently) and play games against others attached to the
- server. One feature of the observation feature, is that by clicking
- the observe button, a browser containing those games currently being
- played appears and the game to be observed is chosen by simply clicking
- on the cell containing that game.
-
- * A smart-go file playback feature. While NeXTGo is not as fully
- featured nor as fast as using Adrian Mariano's mgt program, it can
- play back any smart-go format file. You can also save any game, either
- a local game against another human opponent or the computer opponent
- or a game you either played or observed on the Internet Go Server to
- a smart-go file. This file can then be replayed either in NeXTGo
- or on any of the other smart-go compatible programs (such as mgt).
-
- As a wish list for the future:
-
- * Support for head-to-head play with someone else running NeXTGo on
- the network (as in GoWild or inetgo). This would allow two individuals
- to play directly without going through the Internet Go Server.
-
- * Support for attachments to the Internet Go Server through intermediate
- connections such as modems.
-
- * Support for head-to-head play over a modem connection.
-
- Of course, anyone wishing to work on any of these things is more than welcome
- to do so.
-
- NOTE: The GNU copyleft applies to all aspects of this program.
