  10. Announcement: New Electronic Magazine 'Psyche'.

  12. I am interested in starting up a electronic magazine 
  13. exploring broad issues relating to consciousness and the 
  14. mind. I hope to explore these issues in an interdisciplinary 
  15. way - using approaches and insights from psychology, 
  16. philosophy, anthropology, computer science and mathematics.

  18. Examples of some of the general areas that Psyche will cover 
  19. are: the mind-body problem; altered-states-of-consciousness; 
  20. psychoactive drugs; shamanism; dream states; hypnosis; 
  21. artificial intelligence; meditative states; ecstatic 
  22. religious states; blindsight; language and mind.

  24. In an attempt to offer a grounding in some of the central 
  25. themes of Psyche, major review articles of influential 
  26. ideas/books/movements will also be solicited. Examples of 
  27. what these might be are: John Searle's Chinese Room Problem; 
  28. Daniel Dennett's book 'Consciousness Explained'; Gordon 
  29. Wasson's theories regarding Soma; Roger Penrose's book 'The 
  30. Emperor's New Mind'.

  32. While Psyche will not be peer-reviewed this does not mean 
  33. that it will become a haven for New Age/Lunatic Fringe ideas. 
  34. I have just completed a BSc Honours majoring in psychology, 
  35. and I am currently studying the way the brain codes the 
  36. position of objects. I would like to balance by skills with 
  37. others and so am particularly interested in getting in 
  38. contact with people with backgrounds in either computer 
  39. science, philosophy or anthropology to act as sub/co-editors.

  41. While the date is obviously tentative I would like to get the 
  42. first issue of Psyche out by March 1993. It will be produced 
  43. in ASCII and hopefully postscript. As tends to be the nature 
  44. of electronic journals clarity, rather than length, will be a 
  45. critical factor in deciding which articles are accepted.

  48. subscribing (at least for the first edition), or simply
