  18. But Kathy...you missed my point...for those competent, skilled psychologists
  19. doing research which must meet certain guidelines the goal is to meet
  20. those specific standards...if those standards are met and the research
  21. happens to be in psychology which others doubt is a science then so
  22. be it...I recently submitted a proposal (and received a grant ...ahem...)
  23. to NIH to study the relationship of right hemispheric functioning,
  24. etiology of deafness and socioemotional functioning...one of the comments
  25. I received during the nearly year long review for merit and funding
  26. process was "well at first when we saw this we thought it was just
  27. another one of those behavioral things in psychology then we looked
  28. at it more carefully and realized it had some scientific merit after
  29. all"...well it was accepted, the funds have been disbursed and I'm
  30. happily running my little subjects...I'm funded for the next three
  31. years and couldn't give one hoot if someone doesn't consider it
  32. REAL science...evidently those on the funding committe had enough
  33. scruples to consider the project on its merit and not paint it with
  34. a nonscientific brush just because it came from "one of those psychology
  35. types"  interepreted "not a real scientist"...back to my point in the
  36. first vax (re: doctors, paramedics and saving lives)...who cares what
  37. the label is so long as quality work is getting done?   I know, I know
  38. you don't agree...n'er the twain shall meet?
