- I second Dan Kirchner's viewpoint on the use of NOTIS-L. I am happy that
- there is a lot less dumping on people with basic-level queries than there
- appears to be on other lists, especially lists used by technical workers with
- very narrowly defined specialties. I for one do not have time to read every
- posting every day. Like most NOTIStas, I suspect, I read the headlines and
- only a few actual messages a day. To me, the occasional repitition of basic,
- but important points is helpful. Overall, the atmosphere on NOTIS-L is
- friendly and supportive, And we should try to keep it that way.
-
- on another matter. Even though next year's NUGM is a ways off, it is not
- too soon to start thinking about poster sessions. In particular, SIG
- chairs who are putting together programs and trolling for speakers should
- think of the possibilities of an *adjunct poster session* to provide handouts,
- or the opportunity to speak with an expert in depth on a topic covered in a
- program.
-
- Also, SIGs should consider having booths at the poster sessions, either to
- communicate with members, or to deal with an important development, or matter,
- of interest to the SIG and to NOTIS users at large. If you want to talk,
- email me at TRAMDACK@BIGBLUE.TRENTON.EDU; or TRAMDACK@TSCVM.BITNET; or call
- at 609-771-2343. PJT
