  13. Checking the online OED, one finds 56 instances of a very good
  14. English word which fits, I should think, admirably the phenomenon
  15. being discussed here as a "deprovement", a term which hold no
  16. attraction for me. The word I suggest is "retrogradation" which
  17. which means essentially 'the act of taking a step backwards'.
