- Since there have been a couple of requests for information about
- running NB4 under OS/2 on this list, I thought I might share my
- experience.
-
- NB4 can be simply migrated to the desktop, without any special
- settings, and it works fine. "Vanilla" NB4 will run windowed without
- difficulty--Lingua will run windowed, but you can use the special
- screen fonts only in a full-screen session (that's what I do). I have
- drawn a makeshift icon of a dragonfly on a red background to use with
- the program--I will send it along in a separate message for anybody
- who cares to use it. I know the Great Dragonfly has departed to
- better realms, where little bugs are always fat, but I still like to
- use the icon...
-
- The only element that needs special attention is the treatment of the
- two OS/2 system keys, Ctrl-Esc and Alt-Esc, which call up the task
- list and shift to the next process, respectively. There are two
- approaches to dealing with them. The default is that OS/2 preempts
- these keys for its own use and the application never sees them. I
- have chosen to retain this default and duplicate the functions of
- these keys (in NBLINGUA.KBD) on unused keys (I use Ctrl-Shift-Alt-F5
- and Ctrl-Shift-Alt-F6). The alternative is to decide which of the
- OS/2 system functions you can do without and disable it--you can
- disable only one, else you would be unable to move out of a
- full-screen process without quitting.
-
- Although I am a bit pressed for time at the moment, I would be happy
- to address any questions on this matter--it just might take a few days
- for turnaround. By the way, there IS an OS/2 list also. It is
- OS2-L@FRORS12.BITNET, to which one may subscribe in the normal way by
- sending a message/command to LISTSERV@FRORS12.BITNET.
