- Thanks for the comments on my posting. I should have waited until I
- had the opportunity to explain myself more clearly. The ascii
- 0/review questions arises from my quest for a convenient and effective
- way to generate email messages with NB4. Some may recall that I
- carelessly used the special ascii export feature from the menu one
- time and failed to notice that the program had inserted two full lines
- of ascii 10 (line feed) characters at the end of the document. An
- otherwise fascinating note (it was about twain meeting) was marred by
- some 20 trailing blank screens.
-
- On the advice of no less an expert than Dorothy Day, I obtained a copy
- of Michael Shalev's 1991 vintage email.rn program. Email.rn uses the
- review feature to generate an emailable document. I've described how
- a nested delta in that program seems to drive NB4 crazy. So I set
- myself the task (part curiosity, part recreation) to modify Shalev's
- program to work with NB4. I thought I had accomplished that (this
- message is so generated).
-
- But look closely! Note the uneven left margin. I have tracked down
- the cause, but still seek a cure. It is those invisible ascii 0,s
- that "review" in NB4 seems to insert following the MDNM deltas it
- places at the beginning of each line. I can't seem to get rid of them
- in a fashion I can place in the nb4eml.run program I have built out of
- the Shalev original.
-
- So that's why I asked.
-
- PS. The export feature really works OK, as long as you remember to
- manually erase the ascii 10s before uploading, so this is just a
- personal challenge.
-
- PPS. I know review works for what it is designed for. I'm not holding
- NBI responsible.
-
- PPPS. The program changes offset to 0 and the spaces are visible only
- outside of NB4.
