- Marvyn Harris asks about Laser Twin's ability to printout user-customized HP
- softfonts on a Toshiba. Technically, I do not know the answer; in practice, I
- beleive tht the answer is no, since Laser Twin works on the basis of its own
- creation of HP's fonts. In other words, it never deals with other fonts than
- its own, which are emulations, and which the program uses to intercept the
- output, and draw the page image.
- Jerome Walsh asks about Laser Twin's compatibility with 9-pin printers, such
- as Epson FX-80. The answer is yes, it works well with all Epson models. I'm
- told that quality of print on 9-pin machines appears somewhat improved,
- probably the result of the more than one printhead pass the program instructs
- the printer to execute. I recall working with a Citizen 120-D, a 9-pin
- printer capable of emulating both an Epson FX-80 and an IBM printer. The text
- quality was not so great, but the graphics were very nice. To the extent that
- Laser Twin, in essence, provides a graphic image of the text, it ought to
- improve the look of the printout.
- Finally, Tom Schlesinger's problems with the drivers for NEC P-2200XE and 3200
- from NB4, NBI ought to be able to provide fixes, since they've been working on
- eliminating bugs and limitations on several printer drivers. However, NB3 did
- not provide all the typefaces available on the NEC-P2200XE, specifically, the
- OCR and the Fast Focus were never included. Furthermore, the proportional
- spacing was really nothing more than the repeated ITC Souvenir, limited to
- 10-pitch. At least, that is the case with my drivers.
