- Small minded is an understatement. This is the "Tragedy of the
- Commons" once again, where groups argue counterproductively over
- greater shares of the public square. It's sad...
- This may indeed be the fate of "multicultural diversity" as an issue
- Rather than build coalitions, it may be likely that tensions over
- power will surface, pitting one group against another. This is the
- fate of diversity on many college campuses now.
- I think that the arguement presented here also reveals the author's
- concealed racial bigotry by invoking racial/ethnic identity when it
- is convenient to do so. Not only does it weaken the struggle against
- racism to do so, but it also weakens the struggle against homophobia
- and discrimination against the gay/lesbian community. The wisdom of
- moving the ALA meeting away from Colorado because of the recent referen-
- dum ought to be argued, judged, and acted upon on the strength of its
- own merits, of which there are many.
- Again, a sad statement in my view.
