  14. I teach graduate students in counseling about the necessity of ally work.
  15. The need to the interconnections of all the oppressions.  Racism is related
  16. to classism, sexism to homophobia and heterosexism, ablism to ageism, ant-
  17. semitism to classism and racism... I  could go on and  on.  For people of color
  18. and other oppressed groups not to be outraged  about the Colorado situation is
  19. a real lack of insight into the problem and construction of oppression.  It was
  20. laws like the Colorado situation which kept African Americans in slaved and
  21. later second class citizens; let us hope as we live out the final days of our
  22. captivity we will give up using the "master's tools" of disdain for difference
  23. and divide and conquer.  We must form alliances with those who have been
  24. oppressed by this system of differential privilege based on race, class, gender
  25. and sexual orientation.  Remember one in ten persons is gay.  We each have a
  26. gay relative hiding his/her sexual orientation from us for fear of rejection.
