  13. Thanks to all who responded to the question concerning computer fees.  Randy Ri
  14. chter (RRICHTER@cause.colorado.edu) supplied a two-page list of institutions.
  15. Casey Green (EDUCOM-USC) used percentages: 16% charge computerfees to departmen
  16. t and service units, 20% will begin charging this year or are in process of rev
  17. iew, 23% are charging individual users, and 23% are reviewing this option.

  19. Other respondents indicated that computer fees vary greatly in amount and metho
  20. d of charging:
  21. University of New Brunswick, no computer fee, charges for laser printing
  22. University of Wisconsin, Platteville, no computer fee
  23. University of Wisconsin-Stout, only charge for printing
  24. University of North Texas, $3.25/sem. hr. credit
  25. University of Missouri, $4/credit hour
  26. University of Colorado at Boulder, $10/semester
  27. University of South Alabama, $10/class for College of Education, additional
  28. selected course fees
  29. UNC at Greensboro, $7/1 sem.hr., $14/2, $20/3
  30. Penn State, $35/semester
  31. University of Iowa, $40/semester all full time students except engineers,
  32. Engineers = $100/semester
  33. George Washington, $100/semester
  34. St. Lawrence, $250 for installed ethernet card in dorms ($150 reimbursable)
  35. James Madison, computer literacy fee, component of comprehensive student fee,
  36. generates $523,000/yr. as established by legislation, fee fluctuates
  37.  
  38. Finally, for those who are not regular readers of EDTECH, much discussion has b
  39. een generated about who pays for what and why, but the list of quotes is too
  40. long to include here.  I do not yet know how this information will influence
  41. decisions at Virginia Tech, but we greatly appreciate your input.
