- Dear INNOPAC-ers & AUTOCAT-ers,
- How are Innopac libraries that have permuted/rotated subject headings
- dealing with LC's new policy on subject headings for Russia/Soviet Union
- ["Divide only through the current juridictional name, e.g. SERFDOM--RUSSIA
- (FEDERATION)--SIBERIA" Subject Cataloging Manual H1023 (Aug 92), p.1]?
- 2 Russia Federation --> See Related Subjects .......... 2 entries
- 3 Russia Federation 1237 1917 --> See RUSSIA .......... 1 entry
- 4 Russia Federation 1917 1991 --> See SOVIET UNION .... 1 entry
- 5 Russia Federation Economic Conditions 1991 .......... 1 entry
- 6 Russia Federation Economic Policy 1991 .............. 1 entry
- /////////////////////////////////////////
- 88 Russia Federation Serfdom Siberia ................... 1 entry
- It would be a whole lot simpler, it seems to me, to use the subject
- heading "Russia" for all material about Russia OR the former Soviet
- Union. Or is this too simple? (Remember ca. 1899-1981 LC used
- "Russia" in just this way.)
- What are other libraries doing?
