  44. There is no real definition. It depends on the context. In the Amiga audio
  45. context, sample is, like I've said, I list of values representing some sound.
  46. Here is, however, the Websters Encyclopedic Unabridged Dictionary definition:

  48. sample (the pronouciation, which I do not know how to type in ASCII), n., adj.,
  49. v., -pled, -pling. -n. 1. a small part of anything or one of a number, intended
  50. to show the quality, style, or nature of the whole, specimen. -adj. 2. serving
  51. as a specimen: a sample piece of cloth. -v.t. 3. to take a sample or samples
  52. of; test or judge by a sample. [ME < OF essample. See EXAMPLE]

  54. As you can see, there is nothing about the origin. Sample can be of any origin.
