- Hi:
-
- I haven't posted to this group before, but I enjoy reading
- it and often get a lot of valuable insight from others'
- postings.
-
- I just feel the need to vent a bit. I'm going through a
- tough "I'm wasting my life" period. The years seem to be
- slipping away quickly (Christmas was just last week, wasn't it?),
- and I'm having those feelings of "When will I meet somebody/
- get married/have kids/find a job I love/do something to improve
- the world/etc., etc."
-
- A lot of stuff centers around my job. I just dislike it so
- much! And I just started six months ago, so I'm having feelings
- of terror at the idea of quitting. Plus we're in a recession,
- companies are laying off, my rent is high...I'm just spinning out.
-
- I'd love some advice/shared experiences from people. I don't
- "do" 12-step programs, so Big Book advice is OK, but I'd also
- like to hear from people who have a different slant. What do you
- do when you start to feel your life's at a dead end? I do feel
- better when I reach out to others and don't focus so much on my
- own (self-centered) angst, but my feelings of job dissatisfaction
- take over a lot of my life. After all, I'm at work at least
- 40 hours a week. I don't have a lot of energy left over, after
- spending so much time feeling caged in and miserable at work.
-
- Anybody out there have any stories about just upping and quitting
- a bad job, against all odds and good judgement? Or does anybody
- have any good suggestions to help me adjust my attitude so I can
- get on with work and not feel so frustrated? Any advice would
- be much appreciated. Thanks!
-
- By the way, I should mention that I'm coming up on five years'
- sobriety from drinking and seven years' sobriety from other drugs.
- Is there such a thing as a "five-year-itch"?
-
